{"id":1391,"date":"2018-10-04T17:00:01","date_gmt":"2018-10-04T15:00:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pumainsurance.co.za\/petheaven\/?p=1391"},"modified":"2018-10-04T17:00:53","modified_gmt":"2018-10-04T15:00:53","slug":"bee-stings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pumainsurance.co.za\/petheaven\/bee-stings\/","title":{"rendered":"Bee Stings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[et_pb_section bb_built=&#8221;1&#8243;][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.2.2&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p>If your pet has been stung by a bee or insect, please follow the instructions below.<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Carefully remove the sting and bathe the area with cool water<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Restrict exercise to help decrease blood supply to the area and therefore pain and swelling<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Observe your pet carefully<br \/>\n\uf0b7 You may notice slight changes such as puffiness in the face, lips and eyes as well as lumpy looking skin in the bite area<br \/>\n\uf0b7 A bee sting can be life threatening if your pet has a severe allergic or anaphylactic reaction to the sting. If your pet is uncomfortable or you notice severe facial and\/or neck swelling, difficulty breathing, excessive salivation, collapse or a significant number of lumps in the skin, your pet may be experiencing an allergic reaction. Treat this situation as a medical emergency and see your veterinarian immediately. If your pet is one of a small number of dogs that is unfortunately severely allergic to\u00a0Hymenoptera\u00a0(bees, wasps, hornets) stings then there is now available a process of desensitisation. This involves a series of desensitisation injections (similar to those available for pollen and dust allergens) over a period of time, obviously under careful observation.
